Profile Statement

Reina Sawai is a New Zealand-born Japanese ballet dancer. Following a blend of training in the Vaganova, French and RAD method throughout various schools, she started her career at the Portugal National Ballet where she was heavily influenced by the strong contemporary repertoire and dancers.

She then joined the Vienna State Ballet in 2010 under the direction of the legendary Paris Opera Ballet’s étoile Manuel Legris, where she was later promoted to demi-soloist. Sawai continued her career at Boston Ballet where she danced numerous repertoire by Balanchine and worked closely with world-renowned choreographer Willam Forsythe for several years.

In 2019 she made her move to join Hong Kong Ballet where she has primarily been considered a versatile dancer and performed soloist roles in both classical and contemporary ballets. Having recently stepped off stage, Sawai can been seen making appearances in editorials or advertisements including Cathay Pacific.
